The WIT Crowd | 01/20/2021

Welcome back to another great spring semester! As we settle back into the routine of a semester, even a semester held at a distance, I hope you will take time in these busy first weeks to reflect on and celebrate the challenges we have overcome. Through the tireless work of technologists across the University, we have shifted our educational model to support the needs of a society that has work yet ahead to address the ongoing pandemic.

To all of you who serve in these supportive technical roles: thank you for all that you do!

To every person on this list benefiting from those services, I hope you will join me in sending all the good vibes to those who keep the University educational tools, classroom technology, and infrastructure running smoothly.

Something to Do

Seeking an awesome person to join UMN WIT Executive committee!

Donna Edelen retired from the University of Minnesota in December, and the executive committee is in need of an Executive Co-Chair.

Each executive seat in UMN WIT is occupied by co-chairs, so this role will serve side by side and share duties with our current Executive Co-Chair, Laura Farvour ([email protected]).

Executive Co-Chair duties include:

  • Schedule monthly executive meetings and maintaining agendas.
  • Run a once-yearly WIT Executive retreat (half-day session for WIT Exec to discuss strategic direction for UMN WIT, typically held in August).
  • Cast tie-breaking votes when necessary.
  • Add new members to the WIT mailing list.

The monthly time commitment is 2-5 hours, depending on ongoing projects, with the exception of the Executive Retreat, which typically requires 1-2 hours of additional planning.
